Withers Discusses Upcoming Sentencing of Judge
07/27/2011 | law.comFormer federal judge, Jack Camp, from the Northern District of Georgia, pleaded guilty late last year to charges related to his relationship to a former defendant in his courtroom. Criminal defense lawyers were consulted regarding the plea agreement that the government had entered into with Camp's lawyers - an agreement that contained several favorable provisions to the defendant. As Mr. Withers noted, the government took the unusual position of agreeing to "not take a position" as to the appropriate sentencing guideline of imprisonment the former judge should be sentenced within. At the end of the day, Mr. Withers commented, the central issue is whether the former judge has "to receive a sentence of imprisonment to . . . respect for the law."
